Claude
Monet
Linnea in Monet's Garden
Lesson:
This is a brilliant lesson to combine with more than one class and to take to the outdoors. The church parking lot can make an interesting classroom. The curbs make comfy chairs for listening and the pavement is posh picture palace for chalk drawings! Then at recess, the other classes get to see and share the attractive works of art on the pavement!
Arrange with the teacher (if in classroom) or the office (if in church hall at the time church hall is scheduled) to have tv & vcr available.
Have Monet's Prints Taped or Magneted Around the Room.
Mention that Monet is said to the the Father of Impressionism. When impressionists painted they didn't make a drawing or an outline first, but put the paint colors right next to each other and blended their colors right on the canvas.
Show tape - 30 minutes.
Activity:
Church Parking Lot:
Pair children up and have them create a square for their print. Have children create a chalk drawing with chalk on the pavement to simulate an impressionistic painting.
Classroom:
Have children create a chalk drawing with chalk on its side on construction paper with a piece of sand paper underneath to simulate an impressionistic painting.
