                    Introduce both prints.

 

                    Let's compare these two pictures of horses. 

 

  1. How are the pictures different?

  1. The horses in the Moses print are smaller - very large in the Marc print

  2. The background in the Moses print is the biggest part of the painting - the background is the smallest part

  3. The lines in the Moses print are straight - the lines are curved and round in the Marc print

  4. In the Marc print the horses look wild, there are no people - in the Moses print, people are riding the horses

  5. The horses and background in the Marc print are not colored like in real life, the horses are red with purple and blue manes and the rocks are blue - the horses and background in the Moses print are colored like real life

  1. How are the pictures alike?

  1. Each have three horses

  2. They both contain a background of hills and trees and bushes

  3. Both pictures are during the daytime hours

  1. When you make pictures, do you have to color things the same color as they are in life or can you color thinkgs any way you want?

  1. An artist can color things any way they want like Franz did

  1. What colors describes you when you are happy, sad, angry, peaceful?

  1. Each have three horses

Activity:    Options

  1. Distribute Grandma Moses Packet (in art awareness closset) to each student.  Distribute stock paper.  Have students select an animal and try to create a Christmas Card Scene for Someone Special such as the picture shown below.  Grandma Moses Vintage Greeting Cards in Art Drawer.  Please Be Very Carefull with my cards.  They are very old and very delicate, but I love the children to see at them.  Sincerely, Jennifer.

  1. Distribute Grandma Moses Packet (in art awareness closset) to each student.  Distribute stock paper.  Have students create a Halloween Card/Picture such as theGrandma Moses picture shown above

  1. Distribute paper and oval shapes, can either trace or glue (you decide).  Have students select an animal other than a horse and try to make that animal out of oval shapes.  Have students color their animal designs using their choice of color.  Walk around the room and discuss individually their choice of color and the reason for their selection.
